What Do I Need to Know About Bass Guitar?
A bass guitar is almost similar to the
electric guitar except that it has a larger body, a longer
neck and four strings, which are tuned to a lower octave as
compared to an electric guitar. There are different types of
bass guitar like the hollow-bodied acoustic bass and the
fretless bass guitar.
You can play the bass guitar by plucking
the strings with your fingers, which is the traditional way,
or by slapping or with the help of a guitar pick. The double
bass was more popular till the 1950’s and that’s when the
electric bass became a popular instrument of most of the rock
bands. The bass is capable of rendering low-pitched bass-lines
and can be used for playing different genres of music from
classic rock to soulful ballads and from blues to jazz, fusion
and alternative among many others.
Way back in the early 1930s, an inventor
named Paul Tutmarc developed an electric bass instrument
styled like a guitar in Seattle, Washington. This bass
instrument had frets and could be held in the hand for playing
horizontally. Later-on, the bass guitar got the shape and form
of an electric guitar, which made it easier to hold and play.
The surprising fact is that Tutmarc’s invention never got
noticed and hence it disappeared into a seeming less oblivion.

In the 1950’s the initiative to develop the
bass guitar was taken Leo Fender and he produced an electric
bass for the consumers on a larger scale. He introduced the
Fender Precision Bass in 1951, which was became the standard
benchmark in the music instrument industry. Also known as the
"P-bass", it had similar design like that of the Fender
Telecaster.
Following Fender's footsteps, Gibson
another giant in the guitar business developed and produced a
violin-shaped bass in 1953 and called it the EB-1 Bass. Here’s
a list of the top 4 beginners bass guitar:
