How to String an Acoustic Guitar
Stringing the guitar is not one of the
toughest processes but it needs to be practiced because not
everyone can do it perfect the first time. Hence, here are
some tips that will help you to string the acoustic guitar
with ease.
#1: Get a feel of your guitar
The first and the foremost thing is to get
a feel of your guitar. You need to know the basic parts of
your guitar and what kind of role they will play in enhancing
your learning process. There are five major parts in a guitar
and they are:

· The Bridge
· A Bridge Pin
· The Tuning Pegs
· Headstock
· Nut
#2: How to choose the right strings
Every acoustic guitar comes with its own
set of strings, which may be attached to the guitar or are
available separately. When you are buying the guitar or when
you are changing the strings of your acoustic guitar, you need
to know what type of strings will enhance your guitar playing.
Most of the guitar strings look similar but there are certain
distinctive traits of each of the guitar strings that can
differentiate one from the other.
Each type of guitar string has its own set
of characteristics and tonal qualities. There are two major
factors that you need to consider while choosing guitar
strings:
String Gauge

String gauge is basically the thickness or
the size of the guitar strings. The standard version is that
the thinner strings have a lower gauge, while the thicker
strings have a higher gauge. There will always be a number
mentioned on each of the strings that refers to the diameter
of that particular acoustic guitar string. When you go
shopping, you will find that a pack of strings usually come
with a size label indicating high E string, which means the
diameter varies from .008 to .0012.
String Composition
String composition stands for the material
that is used for making the string. Some of the most popular
string compositions include bronze, phosphor bronze, stainless
steel and nickel. The composition is responsible for the kind
of sound the guitar produces.
#3: String your acoustic guitar
Without the strings, your guitar will
always look naked and incomplete. Here is a step-by-step
approach to stringing your acoustic guitar:
· First find the low E string, which is
the thickest in the group with the highest gauge number of
around .046.
· Look for the ball end or the hollow
cylinder at the end of the string and then find the bridge
pin hole for the E string
· Slowly place the ball end of your
string in the bridge pin hole and secure or fasten it by
inserting the bridge pin into the. Press it firmly.
· Some of the bridge pins have grooves;
make sure that the string is lined with the groove.
· Bring the other end of the string
towards the tuning peg and thread it through the hole in
the tuning peg.
· Don’t let the string slack. Pull the
string to make it tight and simultaneously rotate the
tuning key in a counterclockwise direction.
· Keep turning till you feel that the
string has tightened.
· Repeat this process for all the
strings.
· Once all the strings are in place,
tune your acoustic guitar.
