How do you Shop for Guitar Lessons?
There was a time when the guitar was not
accessible to everyone and the only way to learn was either by
reading books or by joining guitar classes, which were also
rare. But today things have changed and you have multiple
options to choose from. But first things first, you need to
buy a guitar and a guitar pick. Once you have purchased your
guitar, which can be a acoustic, classical or electric guitar
or even a bass guitar depending on your preference, you will
need to shop for guitar lessons. Let us make your work a
little easier. Here’s our list of tips that will help you to
shop around for the best guitar lessons.

Shall we begin?
The internet is always the first choice
these days because you can find a huge repository of relevant
guitar learning sources, which can range from online purchase
of DVD’s to downloading the basics of guitar chords. You will
find e-books, articles, guides, tablatures, chord charts, song
lyrics with chords and many more. The internet is preferred by
many because it saves time and money and you can browse
through from the comfort of your home or even at work. You can
shop for the following over the internet:
1. Tutors/Teachers: Learning from a
professional always helps. Finding a good guitar teacher
is never easy because everyone over the internet will
promise you the best. The only way to distinguish is by
looking at their qualifications and their reputation. Now
if you find a teacher who has graduated from the Berkley
School of Music then you can rest assured that he/she is
one the best teachers that you can have. Similarly,
reputation matters a lot. Look for teachers who have
played with known bands and have a reputation in the music
world as a leading guitarist. They might charge you a
little higher than the market rate but then you will get
to learn everything from the basics of guitar to the chord
layout, structure, tabs etc.
2. Video Lessons: Video lessons are
extremely popular because it removes the cost of hiring a
dedicated guitar teacher. There are plenty of websites who
offer guitar learning videos for free and some will charge
you. You need to be extremely careful while choosing the
right website to download from. One of the ways to
authenticate is by checking out the video lesson samples
and the list of guitarists offering the video lessons. For
example: if you find a website where video guitar
tutorials are being offered by the likes of Marc Seal
(played with Steve Morse), Roger Hodgeson of SuperTramp,
Joe Satriani (Berkley School of Music and taught Steve Vai),
Gregory Newton and Jeff Baxter; then you can blindly sign
up and download the video tutorials because you can rest
assured that the tutorials will be comprehensive.
3. Download Interactive systems: There
are plenty of interactive systems available on the
internet, which can help you with the basics of guitar
learning. Some of these executable files or programs can
be downloaded free (mostly samples) or after purchasing.
For example: there is an interactive learning system
called Guitar Power, which offers more than 3000 chord
voicing, 550 arpeggios, around 500 different scales,
detail on every note on the fingerboard etc. The advantage
is that you can upload the system on your computer and
start your lessons anytime of the day. It will help you to
learn quickly and move from beginners to intermediate and
then advanced.
These are the three most common ways of
finding guitar lessons but at the end of the day, it all
about: where there is a will, there will always be a way! |
